OSHA REQUIREMENTS:
Under Title 29 of the Code of Federal regulations (29 CFR), OSHA assures and enforces safe and healthful working conditions for general industry, construction and maritime trades. It is the Employers duty to provide their workers with a place of employment free from recognized safety and health hazards.
For construction OSHA enforces regulation 1926, Subpart M and for general industry OSHA enforces regulation 1910, Subparts D and F. These regulations specify when fall protection is required and must be followed under penalty of law. It is therefore essential to carefully assess your workplace environment, identify and address any potential fall hazards.
ANSI RECOMMENDATIONS:
Both the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) specify product performance and testing for personal fall protection equipment. While these are voluntary standards they are often adopted by OSHA and other regulatory bodies and should therefore be adhered to as they provide important guidelines for fall protection and fall arrest product safety.
